Before getting started we need to determine if the minimum requirements for
the functioning of this software has been met. You need a local TCP/IP
supported network for the server and client software to work. This means
that if you do not have registered I.P. addresses of the standard dot quad
form: xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx on your network then you need to have at least a local
TCP/IP network set up with local addresses starting with 192.168.xxx.xxx.
Refer to sections 1.1 and 1.2 below to determine if your network is set up
correctly to run this software.
To install the online server timer and online client timer software for
windows XP system, execute the software package installer by double clicking
on the icon labelled Online Timer.
Ignore any warnings on "sharing violations" when the installation
program starts copying files into your system. This simply means that your
system already has these files which may be required for the software to
run.
After the software has been set up on your system you need to run the
configuration script for either the server or client portion of the software.
You do this by choosing the install menu item from the
Online Timer submenu on the main windows start menu. To do this, you
click on the Windows start button located on the bottom left of your
screen, place the mouse pointer over all programs until you see all
the available submenus then locate Online Timer then click on
Install when this menu item appears. Follow the directions in the
configuration program to setup either the timer server or timer client.
The Online Timer submenu will also contain the short cuts to execute
the timer server and timer client programs.
Upon completing the configuration of the timer client program the configuration script will ask you whether or not you want to remove the server portion of the program since it is assume that a client station computer installed with the timer client application will not also be a timer server. Answer yes to remove the server portion of the software.
To install only the online client timer software for windows 95/98 systems,
execute the software package installer by double clicking on the icon
labelled Win9x Timer Client

configuration script for the online timer client. You do this by choosing
the install menu item from the Online Timer submenu on the
main windows start menu. To do this, you click on the Windows start
button located on the bottom left of your screen, place the mouse pointer
over all programs until you see all the available submenus then
locate Online Timer then click on Install when this menu item
appears. Follow the directions in the configuration program to setup the
online timer client. The timer server option in the configuration screen will
be grayed-out and will not be accessible. The Online Timer submenu
will also contain the short cuts to execute the timer client program.
Upon completing the configuration of the timer client program the configuration script will ask you whether or not you want to remove the server portion of the program since it is assume that a client station computer installed with the timer client application will not also be a timer server. Answer yes to remove the server portion of the software.
To install both the online server timer and online client timer software for windows 95/98 systems copy the w9xrel folder directly to your computer. Do not attempt file compression on this folder or the folder contents as it is known to corrupt the application program so that they will not work. execute the setperm.bat program to set the correct permissions for the files in the folder then run the configuration program labelled install.exe in this folder. Follow the directions in the configuration program to setup either the timer server or timer client. The timer server program is located in the subfolder labelled fserver and is named fserver.exe. The timer client program is located in the subfolder labelled fclient and is named fclient.exe.
Upon completing the configuration of the timer client program the configuration script will ask you whether or not you want to remove the server portion of the program since it is assume that a client station computer installed with the timer client application will not also be a timer server. Answer yes to remove the server portion of the software.
If execution of the installation script results in a crash, remove the software package from your machine by removing the w9xrel folder completely recopy this folder back into your computer and execute the install.exe installation script again. If a crash occurs pull up the task manager window by pressing ctrl-alt-del and highlight the following items if they are present: mscp.exe, sscp.exe, winoldap then end these programs.
The default password for the online timer server if not explicitly specified
during server configuration is: shareware
It is recommended that you change the password from its default value if
the default password value is active.
