Importing
Images for your icon may be imported from a variety of sources. The fastest way to create a finished icon is to turn on the general preferences "Automatically create smaller icons" and "Skip 'Auto Scale' warning dialog." Then create an icon image for the 512 x 512 image slot with a white background. When you drop this image on the 512 slot, it will automatically create the smaller image sizes. After you tweak the settings, you are done and you can export your icon!
Exporting
When you export your icon, you can save it to the ICNS or ICO formats. When you export to the icon to the ICNS format, it will save the 512, 256, 128, 48, 32 and 16 image sizes to the file. The ICO format will save the 256, 128, 48, 32, 24, and 16 image sizes. You can also save the individual images with transparency to PNG files.
Settings
Mask-R-Aid provides three different converter algorithms for creating masks. You can also specify the edge transparency, edge depth and whether to fill interior pixels in the icon.
Near White Pixel Conversion
White pixels in the icon image will be ignored when creating a mask. Near white pixels are pixels whose color is very close to white where your eye can't tell the difference between it and a true white pixel. Near white pixels can be introduced through lossy compression or inadequate trimming of the original image. The “Near White Pixels” filter can be used to clean up these pixels thus producing a cleaner mask.
